Do you have a big empty space above your kitchen cabinet and are unsure how to decorate it? I sure did! I spent 2 months looking at the empty space above my kitchen cabinets daily trying to figure out what to do with that space. It’s an awkward little area because if you put smaller stuff up there, no one will be able to see any of it and if you put too much stuff on top then it’s very busy and just doesn’t look right (at least in my opinion is doesn’t). Finally, I just decided to try a few things to see what would work.
At first I tried large kitchen pictures just propped against the wall with a few knick knacks. It was horrible! It looked like I just threw random stuff up there to fill up the space. I also tried putting some of my nicer dishes up there but it ended up looked like a storage area.
Then I tried was some colored bottles that I got at Hobby Lobby for only $1-$4 each, depending on the size. I used a mixture of different heights, widths, shapes and colors and spaced them out evenly.
I had these cute jars with vinegar and vegetables in them that I used to fill in a little more space. They are all different shapes & sizes so it keeps it a little fun.
I also hung three small kitchen pictures on the wall to tie it all together and add a little color on the walls, instead of just on the shelf.
On one side of my kitchen, I have a small set of shelves that I added a decorative plate to along with some smaller vases and vinegar jars.
And that is it! Now, above my kitchen cabinets is cute but not too busy. It has just the right amount of color with a clean and simple look!
What do you do to decorate the space above your kitchen cabinets? I’d love some more ideas!
