My house goal for January is to do a mini-makeover on my half bath. Since this is the smallest room, and hopefully the easiest room I figured I would just do it and get it over with so I can stop thinking about it all time! I have been avoiding pretty much every room in my house because I can’t decide on paint colors so this is a good place to start.
My half bathroom is very small, and is an odd shape. When you open the door, the first thing that you see is the toilet right in front of you. Then, to the left is a little cubby with a little sink. Since this is the main bathroom that guest use when they come over, I need to find a way to make it look cute and homey, even though all you see is the toilet.
Here is what it looks like now…
Very plain & boring! With the bathroom being small and awkward shaped, I’m having a hard time deciding what walls to paint what color. I want to stick with the brown and blue color scheme that I used in my hall bathroom since that is what color my rugs are and I’m too cheap to buy new ones.
So I want both brown and blue walls but both colors could be a little overwhelming on the eyes if there is too much. I am thinking about doing the cubby area around the sink and mirror the chocolate brown and the rest of the walls light blue.
The blue will be the same one that I used in my hall bath…
What do you think I should do?
I would love to replace my mirror too because I really don’t like unframed mirrors and since it is oval shaped I don’t think I will be able to make a frame for it. I also don’t think I will be able to afford a new one. I’m really not sure what to do with it. Maybe I’ll be able to find a cheap unframed, rectangle mirror and just make a frame like I did for the hall bath.
I want to get rid of the full size towel bar next to the toilet. I only need a hand towel holder so it’s silly to have the big ugly bar in there. And the towel holder needs to be next to the sink, not the toilet.
I plan to making some floating shelves to go above the toilet (cross your fingers that they turn out good!). I think the space above the toilet needs the most attention since it’s the first thing that people see when they open the door.
Then I will just finish the bathroom off with some cute decorations on the shelf and a few pictures on the walls.
My total budget for this project is $75. Hopefully I will spend less than that but with the shelves and the mirror that probably won’t happen.
What do you think? Do you have any suggestions for making this bathroom better?
